Russia and now the Eurasian Economic Union is not another country in the European Union or NAFTA. It has its own regulatory requirements.
Each shipment to Russia must be supported by a Certificate of Conformity. Obtaining a CoC can be straightforward but it can also be costly in time and money depending on the industry involved.
The route to obtaining a Certificate of Conformity starts by ensuring that your product complies with Russian regulations. These vary by industry. Once you have obtained documentary proof that you comply with the regulations, you may make a Declaration of Conformity. This is passed to the relevant authority for your industry. If you meet the requirement, you will then be issued with a Certificate of Conformity.

It can be tempting to let your Russian partner deal with certification. However, allowing the Russian importer to hold the CoC has the effect of awarding them exclusivity for three years. If you wish to avoid this, it can be a consideration to set up your own company to act as an importer.

Most of these documents are handled by the Freight Forwarder or logistics company but the Certificate of Origin is obtained by the exporter and the Business Registration Certificate is presented by the importer.
